About us

We believe grammar is learned by doing, not memorizing.

LevelUpESL is a free, game-based English grammar practice platform for learners at every CEFR level — A1 through C2. No account, no paywall, no filler. Just practical grammar practice that actually sticks.

1 What is LevelUpESL?

LevelUpESL is a collection of interactive English grammar games aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Every game on the site is designed around one principle: learning grammar happens when you use it — not when you read about it.

Instead of presenting grammar rules in a textbook format and asking you to memorize them, LevelUpESL puts you inside the grammar. You see a sentence with a blank, hear a word and type it, or match a phrasal verb to its meaning. The game gives you immediate feedback. You get a brief explanation. You move on. Over dozens of repetitions, the pattern becomes natural.

The site currently offers seven distinct games, each targeting a different mode of language learning — from fill-in-the-blank grammar quizzes to real listening exercises and survival mode under the clock.

2 Why we built it

Most online English grammar sites share the same problem: they were built in the early 2000s and haven't meaningfully changed since. The quizzes are clunky. Feedback comes at the very end — if at all. The design is cluttered and hard to use on a phone. And the explanations are either too vague to be useful or too technical to be understood.

We built LevelUpESL because learners deserve better. A grammar exercise should feel engaging, not like filling out a form. Feedback should come immediately — right after you answer — not after 10 questions when the context is already gone. And the site should look and feel modern enough that you actually want to come back to it.

We also built it with SEO and organic reach in mind. LevelUpESL is designed to appear in search results when learners ask grammar questions — and to give them real answers and real practice, not just a link to buy a course.

3 Who it's for

LevelUpESL is for anyone learning English as a second or foreign language. Our content spans all six CEFR levels — so whether you're just starting out (A1 Beginner) or preparing for a C2 Proficiency exam, there's something at your level.

Our games are particularly useful for:

  • Students preparing for Cambridge exams (B1 Preliminary, B2 First, C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency)
  • Self-directed learners looking for free, structured daily practice
  • ESL teachers looking for quick warm-up or review activities for their students
  • Intermediate learners (B1–B2) who know the basics but want to build fluency and accuracy
  • Advanced learners (C1–C2) who want to maintain and fine-tune precision in English

All games are free, require no account, and work on any device. There is nothing to install, download, or sign up for.

5 Our content approach

Every quiz question on LevelUpESL is written or reviewed by the team behind the site. Questions are designed to test real, practical grammar knowledge — not trick questions or obscure edge cases that would confuse even native speakers. Each incorrect option represents a genuine mistake that learners at that level commonly make.

Every answer includes a short explanation that says not just what the correct answer is, but why. This is the core learning loop: attempt, receive immediate feedback, read the explanation, move to the next question.

Articles on LevelUpESL follow the same philosophy: we write about grammar rules that confuse real learners, with real examples, clear comparisons, and links to practice games so you can apply what you just read immediately.

We aim for 100% original content. We do not reproduce questions from other sites or textbooks.

6 How we keep the lights on

LevelUpESL is free and will remain free. We sustain the site through display advertising (Google AdSense). Ads appear in non-intrusive positions — never inside a game while you're playing, and never in a way that interrupts your practice flow.

In the future, we may offer optional digital products — downloadable grammar guides, printable worksheets, or premium vocabulary packs — for learners who want to go deeper. These will always be optional. The core games and articles will stay free.

We have no investors to satisfy, no subscription model to push, and no reason to lock anything behind a paywall. This is a resource built for learners, funded by the learners who use it via ad impressions.
